We tend to become addicted to temporary highs, power or other people while the light, calm and unburdened feeling of happiness is the only thing we should be addicted to.

It doesn’t matter why you want it – it only matters that you do.

Let the thought of having it make you happy. Visualize having it in the way that would make you too happy to think or even speak.

Sound impossible? It won’t after you allow yourself to imagine this kind of happiness.

ClichĂ© it is due to its truthfulness – keeping busy makes you lighten up and stop feeling like you should be thinking about your desire all the time (especially when you notice it hasn’t manifested yet).

When I feel like thinking too much, I start writing, cleaning up or go outside and walk around the block. I think about my new photography goals and challenges. I start looking for a new series to watch (or go back to rewatching OITNB). I catch up on my incomplete errands, in a decisively motivated and not-at-all-lazy way.

This is what puts me in a different mindset simply by letting me engage fully in a concrete activity that requires the presence of both my body and mind which is the exact reason why it works.

There are a million things to do – all we have to do is choose among them.

Thought of the Day

I suggest you take a few minutes to yourself every day – even if for just a few minutes, it replenishes your mind, body, sense of calm and spirit for living.

Tonight, I made vegan chicken nuggets with cream, vegetables, seeds and spices, and am relaxing while watching Wall Street. It’s the easiest thing in the world and absolute bliss. We need to cherish these moments, regardless of the time duration we can spare to enjoy them.

You might have children or feel tired, and not have a movie’s duration to spare; in that case, treat the time you have as something of high value and a chance to practice letting go. Focus on what breathing does to your body. Focus on the way your breathing is allowing your body to effortlessly relax.

Even just a few minutes of enjoying this alone, relaxing time will help you immensely. It will revive your awareness and make you feel like yourself, the way you want to feel all the time. It will make you see how much you already appreciate everything you have because under no circumstances would you actually want to have less.

It will make you see how minuscule your problems actually are and how many possibilities life holds because there is truly no reason for it not to.

Tell yourself that it’s yours.
